The Dawakhana soon gained a high reputation throughout the city as the finest supplier of herbs and in 1920 acquired the status of one of the finest pharmacies.

The premature death of Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed in 1922 was a big shock to the family because the two sons left by him were too young to handle the affairs of Hamdard. However, Mrs. Rabia, the widow of Late Abdul Majeed took command until Hakeem Abdul Hameed, the elder brother of Hakim Mohammed Said, assumed leadership.

In 1940, Hakim Mohammed Said, now of age, joined Hamdard and by 1947, Hamdard became a prominent manufacturer of herbal products and medicines in the subcontinent.

After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Hakim Mohammed Said at the age of 29 migrated to Pakistan, and in the year of 1948 he established Hamdard Pakistan in Karachi on a modest scale.

Hakim Mohammed Said was a man of determination and rare qualities. By sheer dint of his labor, dynamism, and native genius he was able to make Hamdard the leading manufacturer of herbal medicines and products in Pakistan in just a span of six years.

In 1953, when Hamdard became a big pharmaceutical company, Hakim Mohammed Said declared it a "Waqf" (Trust). The "Waqf" has a religious basis and is irrevocable. A Waqf is considered to be under the ownership of God. It is an article of faith with Muslims that everything in this world belongs to God and man is only permitted a justifiable use of it.

We each have come into this world for a specific reason - to live, love and serve Allah through service of His creatures.

This is what the institution of Hamdard reflects - dignity, knowledge, faith, sincerity, honesty and the spirit of service.

Hamdard signifying 'Sympathy' has chosen to serve through activities for the promotion of good health and education - the twin pillars of progress.

Love Pakistan, Build Pakistan, should be our motto.

How can we express it better than through faith and service, which are the essence of humanity.

My father, Shaheed-e-Pakistan Hakim Mohammed Said, was a remarkable humanitarian, an eminent social scientist, a renowned physician and revivalist of Traditional Medicine, who had lent a new dimension to Alternative Medicine having getting it recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf), Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, Hamdard Clinics and Madinat al-Hikmah - a city of science, culture and education, are a testimony of his love for humanity,devotion to the promotion of education and learning and dedicated service to the people of Pakistan.

I pledge myself to continue his mission under all circumstances.

In such circumstances the responsibilities of the manufacturers of herbal medicines for producing effective medicines have been doubled.

We, in Hamdard are trying our best to fulfil these responsibilities by producing natural medicines and herbo-mineral products, health supplements and food supplements by conducting researches on herbs and medicinal plants and effecting qualitative improvement of old ones by passing them through regular laboratory tests and clinical experiments.

"Quality at all costs" has always remained a cherished goal of Hamdard and attaining even higher standards will be its focal point during the 21st century.
