Description
Icterene is an inorganic chemical compound of Tamarix dioica and
is an effective treatment for jaundice, infective haemolytic or
toxic. It has also been found clinically useful in Jaundice Neonatarum.
Indications
Besides its specific use in jaundice, Icterene has also been successfully
employed in oliguria or where diuresis is required. In mild infective
febrile states Icterene acts as diaphoretic and lowers down the
body temperature.
Directions
Usually for adults two tablets three times a day in between meals
for three days are enough to effect a clinical relief of jaundice.
In severe cases, eight tablets in twenty-four hours' duration can
be given in divided doses without any harm. In case a satisfactory
response is not obtained, a further course for three days more be
given to the patient with the usual dosage. Plenty of drinks, glucose
water and fruit juices, should be taken. Meat and fats be avoided
totally.
